See the best of Florence in 90 minutes without walking a step. Your private electric golf cart leaves from Piazza Carlo Goldoni, runs along the Arno past Ponte Santa Trinita and Ponte Vecchio, then climbs through Porta San Miniato to the Basilica of San Miniato al Monte and Piazzale Michelangelo, where the whole city opens up below you at sunset. A local driver-guide is at the wheel the whole way, telling you what you are looking at and answering your questions in English, Spanish or Italian, with MP3 audio commentary on board as well. The cart is yours alone: no strangers, no fixed timetable, and we stop wherever you want a photo. Ideal if you are short on time, travelling with children or older parents, or you simply want to see Florence without the crowds and the cobblestones.
We meet on the Lungarno Vespucci side of Piazza Carlo Goldoni, facing the river, next to Ponte alla Carraia. Look for the white golf cart with photos of Florence on the side. Your driver will call if he cannot find you, so please add a phone number that works in Italy to your booking.
We are in the heart of the city. Straight ahead is the historic Salvatore Ferragamo boutique, in the middle of the square stands the Column of Justice, and to your left the Gothic basilica of Santa Trinita with its frescoes.
Piazza Ognissanti, with a free visit to the church of the same name. Sandro Botticelli, who was born in this quarter, is buried here, as is Caroline Bonaparte, Napoleon's sister. The church is known for frescoes by Domenico Ghirlandaio and by Botticelli himself, and above all for Giotto's Crucifix, the Ognissanti Crucifix.
Where the tour starts and ends, unless you ask us to drop you somewhere else.
We pass the old southern gate in the medieval walls, the historic entrance for anyone arriving in Florence from Rome. This is where the scenic climb up to Piazzale Michelangelo begins.
We cross Ponte Santa Trinita, which gives you the best view there is of Ponte Vecchio, the symbol of Florence and the only bridge in the city spared in 1944. Your driver tells you the story and shows you exactly where to stand for the photo.
A striking three-tiered fountain on the road between Piazzale Michelangelo and the church of San Miniato al Monte. Worth a proper look, especially in the sunset light.
A Benedictine abbey built between 1013 and 1018, the oldest church in Florence in the Florentine Romanesque style, with a white and green marble facade and a wide view over the city.
Porta San Miniato was built in 1320 along the fourteenth-century walls, on the road linking the city to the hill of San Miniato. This is where our climb to the piazzale begins.
We reach Piazzale Michelangelo, where a one-of-a-kind panorama opens up. You will see the whole of Florence from above, with Ponte Vecchio, the Duomo and the Arno laid out beneath you, and at sunset the light on the city is unforgettable.
