    Mala Pevnost (Small Fortress)

Our journey begins at the Small Fortress, a former Gestapo prison where silent courtyards and narrow cells still echo with stories of suffering and resilience. Before entering the fortress, we pass the large National Cemetery and Jewish Cemetery, powerful memorial sites that set the tone for this deeply moving experience. Terezin Memorial

We then continue to the Main Fortress, crossing the canal as we enter the historic fortified town built along the Ohře River. Terezín is striking in its military architecture and quiet beauty, yet its streets carry the weight of a dark past. During World War II, the town was transformed into a Jewish ghetto, where thousands of Jewish prisoners were forced to live in extremely overcrowded conditions, often sharing only a few square meters of space. Here we usually visit the Magdeburg Barracks, where you can see a reconstruction of the prisoners’ living quarters as well as powerful examples of artwork, music, and cultural creations made by Jewish artists and inmates during their imprisonment, preserving humanity and creativity even in the darkest times.

We also visit the Ghetto Museum, where we learn about the journeys of those who arrived in Terezín and those who were later transported away. During World War II, more than 160,000 people passed through Terezín, making it one of the most significant and tragic sites connected to the Holocaust in Central Europe.

We also visit the Old Jewish Cemetery and the crematorium, deeply moving memorial sites that bear silent witness to the suffering and loss experienced in Terezín during World War II.

On our way, we also pass through the town Bohušovice nad Ohří, where many prisoners once had to walk to reach the train station upon arrival in Terezín and before later deportations. In the later years of the war, a railway track was built directly into the ghetto, from where thousands of Jewish prisoners were transported to extermination camps such as The Holocaust camps including Auschwitz II-Birkenau.

National Memorial To The Heroes Of The Heydrich Terror

We then begin our journey back to Prague, passing through a beautiful agricultural landscape of fields, orchards, and strawberry farms, with views of the countryside and a peaceful monastery along the way. On the route, we also pass the Paratroopers Memorial, an important monument dedicated to the Czech resistance during the Nazi occupation and the heroes of the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich, known as Operation Anthropoid.
