Ride the Kawarau Gorge Trail – Central Otago’s Most Anticipated Latest Great(est) Ride

Embark on an unforgettable one-day e-bike adventure from Cromwell to Gibbston, a spectacular 42km journey that blends raw landscape, rich history, and world-class wine.

Starting in the heart of Central Otago wine country, you’ll ride through Bannockburn before entering the dramatic Kawarau Gorge. From here, the trail follows the river through a remote and rugged landscape, weaving beneath towering bluffs, across suspension bridges, and along expertly engineered pathways carved into the rock. This is a ride defined by scale, scenery, and a sense of discovery.

Along the way, take in historic gold mining relics, striking rock formations, and views of the powerful Kawarau River as it cuts through the gorge — a part of the region few have experienced until now.

Your journey starts and finishes in Gibbston Valley at The Church cellar door, where you can unwind with a glass of local wine and soak in the alpine surroundings.

This small-group, self-guided e-bike experience includes premium bike hire, shuttle transfers, and expert local tips, so all you need to do is enjoy the ride.
