Cluj Dracula Tour: Trace the Real Novel Route (Bram Stoker)

10 to 12 hours (approximately)

Offered in: English

This is the only Dracula tour that follows the real route from Bram Stoker's novel — not the Bran Castle that the book never mentions. We trace Jonathan Harker's exact journey: from Klausenburg (today's Cluj-Napoca) to Bistritz and through the eerie Bârgău Pass, deep into the Carpathians toward where Castle Dracula stands in the manuscript itself.

On the menu, straight from Stoker's pages, we have "paprika hendl" or for the vegetarians some "mamaliga". Or maybe you want to taste a glass of that "queer sting on the tongue".

Walk the exact road from the pages of Dracula, step into the novel and follow Harker's path yourself.

Discover the grandeur of Bánffy Castle in Bonțida, a striking embodiment of Transylvanian nobility and history, mirroring Jonathan Harker's own quest for understanding in 'Dracula'. As Harker delved into books and maps at the British Museum to grasp the essence of Transylvania, you too will unravel the layers of history and culture enshrined within this majestic castle's walls, gaining a deeper appreciation of the land that once intrigued a nobleman of such enigmatic renown. "I had visited the British Museum, and made research among the books and maps in the library regarding Transylvania; it had struck me that some foreknowledge of the country could hardly fail to have some importance in dealing with a nobleman of that country" (Dracula - Johnathan Harker's Journal)

    Bistrita-Nasaud County

Step into the Bistrita-Nasaud County Museum, where the rich tapestry of local lore and history echoes Jonathan Harker's observations in 'Dracula'. Harker's fascination with Bistritz is mirrored in the museum's captivating exhibits. "But I found that Bistritz, the post town named by Count Dracula, is a fairly well-known place. [...] I read that every known superstition in the world is gathered into the horseshoe of the Carpathians, as if it were the center of some sort of imaginative whirlpool" (Dracula - Johnathan Harker's Journal)
