Explore the Archaeological Park of Canne della Battaglia, in the ancient village where the Roman army suffered a disastrous defeat at the hands of Hannibal and his army.
The guided tour starts at the Antiquarium Museum, where you can observe Roman and medieval artifacts such as amphorae, iron and bronze armor, and pottery with geometric decorations belonging to pre-Roman populations (Daunian-Peucetian). Admire objects dating back to the 3/4th century BC, discovered in tombs and in the Necropolis of Cannae.
Your guide will reveal the secrets of the site of the Battle of Cannae during the visit to the archaeological excavations, starting from the remains of the medieval castle, a small fortification in a panoramic position used to control the surrounding territory, and continuing to the remains of the early Christian Basilica of St.Leucio, featuring a semicircular apse, traces of ancient flooring still visible today, and parts of the original walls that outline its historical structure

The Archaeological Park of Canne della Battaglia, near Barletta in Puglia, preserves the remains of the ancient settlement linked to the famous Battle of Cannae (216 BC), in which Hannibal defeated the Romans. The site includes necropolises, ancient structures, an early Christian basilica, and a medieval fortification, as well as the Antiquarium Museum with Roman, medieval, and pre-Roman artifacts.
