Located only 12.1 km (about 20 to 30 minutes) southwest of the city of Oaxaca, this picturesque town stands out for its colorful streets and workshops where artisans make unique pieces from copal wood.
Teotitlán del Valle is an emblematic Zapotec town located just 30 km (45 minutes) east of Oaxaca City. It is world famous for its wool mats woven on a pedal loom and dyed with 100% natural pigments such as cochineal grain and indigo.
The Tlacolula Market (whose main space is the Martín González Municipal Market) is the largest, oldest and most important indigenous tiangui in the Central Valleys of Oaxaca. Although the building opens all week, its true splendor occurs only on Sundays, when it is transformed into a gigantic market that floods the neighboring streets with traditional commerce and centuries-old practices such as Zapotec barter.
The Archaeological Zone of Mitla is the second most important ceremonial center of the state of Oaxaca and the main political and religious axis of Zapotec culture in the Tlacolula Valley after the fall of Monte Albán. Its name comes from the Nahuatl Mictlan, which means "place of the dead", while in Zapotec it is known as Lyobáa, or "resting place"
