  Taj Mahal

  Agra Fort

  After lunch your guide takes you to Agra Fort, the city's second UNESCO World Heritage Site. This massive red sandstone fortress was built by Mughal emperor Akbar in the 16th century and served for generations as the main residence and military seat of the Mughal rulers. You will skip the queue with your pre-purchased ticket and walk through grand gateways into a walled city of marble palaces, audience halls, mosques, and gardens showcasing the finest Mughal architecture.   Itmad-ud-Daula

  Finish with the Tomb of Itmad-ud-Daulah, widely known as the Baby Taj. Commissioned by Empress Nur Jahan for her father Mirza Ghiyas Beg, a Persian nobleman and minister at Emperor Jahangir's court, this jewel-box mausoleum on the banks of the Yamuna was the first Mughal monument built entirely of white marble and the first to use pietra dura inlay on this scale, making it the direct architectural precursor to the Taj Mahal. It is quieter and far less crowded than the main monuments, and a favourite with photographers. This stop is optional.
