    Meet Your Guide & Journey to the Summit** After meeting your guide, enjoy a short 10-minute drive to the trailhead. From there, begin a scenic walk toward the summit of Kīlauea while taking in the quiet beauty of the early morning. The Birth of an Island As you walk, discover how the five volcanoes that make up Hawaiʻi Island were formed and how volcanic activity continues to shape the landscape today. At the Edge of Pele's Home Stand overlooking Halemaʻumaʻu crater and learn about Pele, Hawaiian traditions surrounding the volcano, and the dramatic events of the 2018 eruption that transformed the summit. Unique photo opportunities are presented on the rim of one of the world's most active volcanoes! Gods, Kings & Culture On the return walk, explore the stories that shaped Hawaiʻi—from ancient gods and oral traditions to King Kamehameha, the meaning of aloha, and the enduring connection between the Hawaiian people and the land.
