Cortina d'Ampezzo is the most famous resort in the Dolomites, surrounded by some of the most spectacular mountains in the world, today a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its origins date back to the Middle Ages, when it was a small mountain village dedicated to trade and pastoralism. Today it is internationally known for winter sports, summer hiking and its elegant center, which combines Alpine tradition and exclusive atmosphere.
The Castle of Botestagno stands on the remains of an ancient fortification perched on a rocky outcrop along the Ampezzo Valley. Its origins probably date back to the 11th century and, thanks to its strategic position, it controlled the passage between Cadore and Tyrol. Today there are still impressive ruins immersed in the woods that tell the medieval past of the valley and offer splendid views of the surrounding Dolomites.
The Fanes Falls are among the most spectacular natural wonders of the Ampezzo Dolomites. Formed by the waters of the Fanes stream, they develop with suggestive jumps between rock walls and centuries-old forests. Reachable through scenic trails, they offer the rare opportunity to walk even behind the veil of water of the main waterfall, giving a unique experience immersed in the nature of the Natural Park of the Ampezzo Dolomites.
