Palazzo Torriani was built at the end of the 16th century in the center of Marradi on commission from the Razzi family, right above the remains of a pre-Roman tower. The clients soon realized that the venture exceeded their means and so the Torriani family became the owners of the palace. The Torriani family had arrived in Marradi from Milan, a city from which they had been expelled following the bloody power struggles with the Visconti; in the second half of the 17th century, the family completed construction of the great palace and has resided there to this day.
