Forget the steep mountains — this is Austria's gentle side. Just one hour from Vienna, the sunlit Pannonian plain feels more like Tuscany: rolling vineyards, storks clattering on the chimneys, and a slow glass of wine at noon.
This is our shortest tour (6–8 hours), designed to leave you refreshed, not exhausted — perfect if you plan a concert or a night out in Vienna afterwards.
Your journey: Eisenstadt, where we stroll the courtyards of the Esterházy Palace and the charming old town (palace interiors not included — see our "Haydn, Castles, Wine" tour for the full palace and fortress experience). Rust, the wine town of the storks, with nests on almost every chimney in summer. And the UNESCO-listed Lake Neusiedl, a vast steppe lake ringed with reeds. A tasting of Burgenland's famous red wines is included.

Your private driver and guide pick you up at your hotel. As we head southeast, watch the landscape flatten and open up. We are entering the "Pannonian Basin," a region influenced by the warm winds of the Hungarian steppe. It is visually soothing and completely different from the rest of Austria.

2Eisenstadt
We start our visit at the unique Bergkirche (Hill Church), famous for its unusual architecture and as the final resting place of Joseph Haydn. From here, we take a pleasant, easy stroll down towards the city center. We arrive at the magnificent Esterházy Palace. We will admire this baroque masterpiece from the outside, walk through the impressive courtyard, and explore the beautiful Palace Gardens (Schlosspark). Note: We focus on the exterior and the park. Since the palace opening hours vary significantly by season (often closed on weekdays in winter), admission tickets are not included. However, during the open season (May–September) or weekends, if you wish to see the interior, tickets can be purchased on the spot. (Admission Ticket: Not Included)

3Rust
Then, past the vineyards of Burgenland, we will go to the shores of Lake Neusidler and the town of Rust, the wine capital of the region, included in the UNESCO list. Rust is included in the list of the most picturesque villages in Austria. In a romantic place, with a glass of local wine, our journey will end at the sunset.

Before heading back to Vienna, we drive to the picturesque shore of Lake Neusiedl, a UNESCO World Heritage site. We will spend some time here to breathe in the fresh breeze from the vast steppe lake and admire the endless reeds. It is a peaceful, scenic finale to our day and the perfect opportunity to take some beautiful photos to remember the "Sunny Side of Austria."

5Vienna
Sit back and enjoy the ride home. Unlike strenuous hiking trips, this day is about recharging your batteries. You will arrive back in Vienna feeling rested and ready for your evening plans.
