home to Kota Melawati, a fort originally built by the Malacca Sultanate and later captured by the Dutch in 1784. They renamed it Fort Altingsburg, equipped it with heavy cannons, and held it for less than a year before the sultan took it back. The execution block, the poisoned well, and the royal mausoleum of the first three Sultans of Selangor are all still here. So are the silvered leaf monkeys, which roam freely across the hilltop and have been here long enough to be completely unbothered by visitors. From the lighthouse, you can see the Strait of Malacca stretching toward Sumatra on a clear day.
