Start your journey early from Muscat and travel along Oman's scenic coastal road toward the Sharqiyah region
Begin with a visit to the famous Bimmah Sinkhole, a spectacular natural limestone crater filled with clear turquoise water. Surrounded by rugged rocks and beautiful scenery, it is an excellent place for photographs and, conditions permitting, a refreshing swim.
Continue to Fins Beach, one of Oman's beautiful coastal stretches. The beach is known for its clear blue water, white pebbles, dramatic mountains, and peaceful atmosphere. Take some time to enjoy the coastline and capture photographs.
Continue to Wadi Shab, one of Oman's most spectacular natural attractions. Take a boat across the entrance and begin the scenic walk through the canyon, surrounded by towering cliffs and dramatic mountain scenery. The wadi features beautiful natural pools and turquoise water. The hike is moderately challenging, so comfortable walking shoes and suitable swimwear are recommended. Continue toward Ras Al Hadd, a beautiful coastal area famous for its sea turtles. Check in at Turtle Beach Resort and relax before the evening activity. Evening Turtle Watching After dinner or during the evening, head toward the designated turtle-watching area. Depending on the season, weather, and natural conditions, you may have the opportunity to see sea turtles coming ashore to nest. Visit a traditional Omani dhow-building workshop and see how these iconic wooden boats have been crafted using traditional techniques. Continue to an Omani gazelle conservation/farm area, where you can learn more about these beautiful animals and Oman's efforts to protect its native wildlife.
Travel inland toward Wadi Bani Khalid, one of Oman's most famous oasis valleys. Surrounded by rugged mountains and dotted with palm trees, the wadi features beautiful turquoise pools and flowing water. Take time to relax, explore the surroundings, and enjoy the natural pools. Visitors who wish to swim should bring appropriate swimwear.
Leave the mountains behind and enter the spectacular Wahiba Sands, one of Oman's most iconic desert landscapes. Watch the scenery transform into vast golden dunes as you travel deeper into the desert. Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, take photographs, and experience the unique beauty of the Omani desert. Continue to Desert Rose Camp for check-in and your overnight desert experience.
After breakfast at the desert camp, leave Wahiba Sands and head toward the cultural and historical heart of Oman.
Arrive in Nizwa, one of Oman's most historically important cities, and visit the magnificent Nizwa Fort. The fort is famous for its enormous circular tower and impressive defensive architecture. Explore the fort's rooms, passages, exhibits, and viewpoints while learning about Nizwa's important role in Omani history. NOTE: Nizwa Fort entrance (pay on site )
Walk through the traditional Nizwa Souq, located close to the fort. Browse shops selling Omani silver jewelry, pottery, handicrafts, spices, dates, traditional products, and souvenirs. The souq offers a wonderful opportunity to experience traditional Omani culture and local commerce.
Continue to Birkat Al Mouz, a picturesque traditional village surrounded by date plantations and the dramatic foothills of the Hajar Mountains. Explore the old village surroundings and enjoy views of the palm groves and traditional agricultural landscape.
Discover the traditional Al Kattmyn aflaj irrigation system, part of Oman's remarkable heritage of water management. These traditional channels have helped bring water from the mountains to villages and agricultural areas for generations. Take a short walk and learn about how these ancient irrigation systems continue to influence life and agriculture in Oman.
Continue into the spectacular Jebel Akhdar, meaning "Green Mountain." The region is famous for its dramatic mountain valleys, terraced farms, traditional villages, and spectacular panoramic views. Depending on the season, you may see fruit orchards, roses, pomegranates, and other crops cultivated on the mountain terraces. Enjoy the cool mountain atmosphere and breathtaking scenery before beginning your journey back toward Muscat.
