For the past 200 years, the Mona monkeys living in the tropical forest surrounding the small village of Tafi-Atome have been protected, as they were believed to be messengers of the gods. In 1996, the village initiated broader efforts to safeguard both the forest and the monkeys, as well as to offer tours for visitors. As a result of these initiatives, the monkey population has grown to approximately 200, and the forest, along with its diverse species of birds and butterflies, has been preserved. The playful monkeys are wild but often come quite close to visitors, especially when they are offered bananas. Visitors can feed the monkeys and enjoy the beauty of nature in this unique setting.
