Scenic Bike Tour in Hallstatt with Lake Views

3 to 4 hours (approximately)
Offered in: German and 1 more

Experience Hallstatt beyond the crowds. Instead of arriving with the usual flow of buses and boats, you'll approach Hallstatt gradually by bike along the quieter shores of Lake Hallstatt, stopping at scenic viewpoints and discovering underrated Obertraun along the way.

This is a sightseeing experience first and a bike tour second: relaxed riding, spectacular scenery, local stories, photo stops and time to experience Hallstatt itself.

With your bike and helmet included and the meeting point directly at Steeg-Gosau railway station, the experience is also easy to reach without a car or additional transfer. Small groups allow the route and pace to be adapted to the riders and conditions on the day.

    Hallstatter See

Follow one of the most scenic sections of the ride along Lake Hallstatt's quieter eastern shore. The route combines relaxed cycling with beautiful views across the water towards the surrounding mountains. We'll stop at several viewpoints for photos and local stories, while Hallstatt gradually gets closer across the lake. This section is about enjoying the landscape rather than covering kilometres as quickly as possible.

    Obertraun

Cycle through Hallstatt´s Underrated Neighbour: Before reaching Hallstatt, we'll ride through Obertraun at the foot of the Dachstein mountains. Often overlooked by visitors heading straight for its famous neighbour, Obertraun offers a quieter glimpse of life around Lake Hallstatt and some beautiful views across the water. It's a perfect fit for this tour: spectacular scenery without the crowds, and another side of the region that many Hallstatt visitors simply pass by. From here, we continue towards Hallstatt as the village draws ever closer.

    Hallstatt

The highlight of the journey. We'll enter Hallstatt itself, riding where conditions allow and walking our bikes through busier sections when appropriate. Along the way, discover some of the stories behind the UNESCO World Heritage landscape, Hallstatt's ancient salt-mining history and the archaeological discoveries that made the village famous around the world. You'll also have time to explore independently, take photos or stop for a drink before we continue.

    Hallstatter See

Leave the crowds of Hallstatt behind and get back on the bike for the final part of the journey. Depending on group ability, weather and traffic conditions, your guide will choose the most suitable return route. Confident groups may continue around the lake to complete the full circuit back to Steeg-Gosau, while a quieter alternative is available when conditions make it the better choice. Either way, the emphasis remains the same: relaxed riding, great scenery and an enjoyable experience rather than speed.
