  • Piazza del Campo (Pass by)

    Twice a year, on July 2nd and August 16th, the seventeen neighborhoods of Siena gather on Piazza del Campo for their traditional horse races, ‘Il Palio’. Only ten neighborhoods get to race each time and are represented by a horse and its ‘fantino’. The races are the highlight of the year and months before, celebrations are being held in preparation.

  • Torre del Mangia (Pass by)

    While the tower is situated at the lowest point of the city, it is by far the highest building. Torre del Mangia is visible from far away and has an incredible panoramic view, if you choose to take on the challenge of climbing all of the stairs to the top. Construction on the tower started in 1338 and it took ten years to complete, while the oldest clock was placed before that happened.

    Also known as the Medici fortress of Siena, the Forte di Santa Barbara has a long story and has repeatedly been a symbol of oppression for the residents of Siena. The fortress is situated close to the historic center of the city and is currently used as a place to host various events.
