  Kashi Vishwanath Temple

  The temple is in Varanasi, on the western bank of the Ganges. It’s one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, making it one of the holiest pilgrimage sites in India. The temple has been rebuilt several times due to invasions and destruction in the past. The current structure was constructed in 1780 by Ahilyabai Holkar, the queen of Indore. Later, the temple’s iconic golden spire was plated with gold by Maharaja Ranjit Singh in the 19th century.

Because of this, funeral pyres burn here 24 hours a day.

  Dashashwamedh Ghat

  Dashashwamedh Ghat is the most famous and lively ghat in Varanasi, located near Godowlia and close to the old city’s main areas. Dashashwamedh Ghat is known for its grand Ganga Aarti, which attracts thousands of visitors every evening. It’s considered one of the most spiritually vibrant places along the Ganges. According to legend, Lord Brahma performed ten Ashwamedha Yajnas (horse sacrifices) here to welcome Lord Shiva. This is how the ghat got its name (“Dasha” = ten, “Ashwamedha” = horse sacrifice). Dashashwamedh Ghat captures the true essence of Varanasi—spiritual energy, devotion, chaos, and beauty all in one place.
