The Tapas & History with Botín tour option starts here with a glass of vermouth, the house tapas, and some Manchego cheese. While enjoying this traditional Spanish aperitif, you'll learn about its history on the ground floor of what was once the home of Miguel de Cervantes, author of Don Quijote lived. Family-owned and historic Casa del Abuelo. We will go to and try gambas al ajillo, one of Spain’s most beloved dishes. We will discover how this dish actually came from poverty though now celebrated. We will drink Grandpa’s house wine, made at the family vineyards. (if option selected)
Next, it’s time for a veritable Spanish feast! Step past the long lines forming outside before the restaurant even opens its doors. Your guide will show you the cave beneath the restaurant, which was part of a tunnel system that once spread underneath Madrid, and take you behind the scenes of the historic kitchen where 300-year-old ovens make time-perfected recipes. Finally, sit down for a three-course meal and feast on specialties such as Botín’s signature roast suckling pig. (last stop for both options)
