    Bunratty

Dublin to Bunratty Castle will take 2hrs 40min approx. Bunratty is one of Ireland’s most famous and impressive medieval castles, located beside the River Ratty in County Clare, approximately 15 minutes from Shannon Airport. The present castle was built around 1425 by the MacNamara family, before later passing to the powerful O’Brien family. Its strategic position made Bunratty an important stronghold during the medieval period, particularly during the conflicts between Gaelic Irish families and the Anglo-Norman forces. The castle is a magnificent four-storey tower house, with thick stone walls, defensive features and large medieval halls. Inside, visitors can explore furnished rooms that recreate the atmosphere of a medieval Irish castle, including the Great Hall, private chambers and living quarters. Bunratty is also famous for its Bunratty Folk Park, which recreates a 19th-century Irish village and rural community.
