The Chengdu Panda Base is the best-known place to see giant pandas in Chengdu. You can walk through the panda enclosures and see giant pandas of different ages, including young pandas and cubs. The park also has red pandas, panda nurseries and educational areas about panda conservation. Recommended: Half day Best time: Early morning, when the pandas are generally more active. The official opening time is currently 7:30am from March to October and 8:00am from November to February.
Kuanzhai Alley (宽窄巷子) is one of Chengdu’s most famous historic areas, made up of three traditional lanes: Wide Alley, Narrow Alley, and Well Alley. It features beautifully preserved Qing Dynasty-style buildings, local teahouses, restaurants, and small shops. It’s a great place to experience Chengdu’s traditional architecture, relaxed lifestyle, and local culture.
People’s Park (人民公园) is one of Chengdu’s most popular local parks and a great place to experience the city’s relaxed lifestyle. It is famous for its traditional teahouses, especially the lively Heming Teahouse, where locals enjoy tea, chat, and spend time together. You can also see locals playing mahjong, practicing Tai Chi, and enjoying music and dancing. It’s a wonderful place to experience the authentic, laid-back atmosphere of Chengdu.
Wenshu Monastery is one of Chengdu’s best-preserved Buddhist temples and an important cultural landmark in the city. With its traditional architecture, peaceful courtyards, Buddhist statues, and beautiful gardens, it offers a quiet escape from the busy city. It’s also a great place to experience Chengdu’s local culture and enjoy a traditional cup of tea.
Jinli Ancient Street is one of Chengdu’s most popular historic areas, known for its traditional Sichuan-style architecture, local snacks, teahouses, and handicraft shops. The street has a lively atmosphere, especially in the evening when the traditional-style buildings and red lanterns are beautifully lit. It’s a great place to experience Chengdu’s local food, culture, and nightlife.
Qingyang Palace (Green Ram Temple) is one of the most famous Taoist temples in Chengdu and is considered an important center of Taoist culture in China. Originally dating back to the Tang Dynasty, the temple has a long history and features traditional Chinese architecture, peaceful gardens, and beautiful courtyards. One of its highlights is the Bronze Ram statues, which are believed to bring good luck and are closely associated with local Taoist traditions. It is a great place to experience Chengdu’s history, traditional culture, and a quieter side of the city.
Dujiangyan Irrigation System is a remarkable ancient water-control project built over 2,000 years ago and still in use today. Nearby Mount Qingcheng is one of the birthplaces of Chinese Taoism, famous for its peaceful forests, temples, and beautiful mountain scenery. Suggested time: 1 full day for Dujiangyan + Qingcheng Mountain
The Leshan Giant Buddha is the world's largest stone Buddha statue, carved into a cliff more than 1,300 years ago. Mount Emei, one of China's famous Buddhist mountains, offers beautiful scenery, ancient temples, and mountain landscapes. Suggested time: 1 day for Leshan + 1 day for Mount Emei. For hiking and a more relaxed experience, 2–3 days is recommended.
Jiuzhaigou National Park is famous for its crystal-clear lakes, colorful forests, waterfalls, and spectacular mountain scenery. Huanglong is known for its beautiful multi-colored travertine pools surrounded by snow-capped mountains. Together, they offer some of the most impressive natural scenery in Sichuan. Suggested time: 3 days for Jiuzhaigou + Huanglong
