Basilica de Nossa Senhora do Rosario de Fatima

Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fátima is one of the most important Catholic pilgrimage sites in the world and a central part of the Sanctuary of Fátima. Built on the site where the three shepherd children witnessed the Marian apparitions in 1917, the basilica was constructed between 1928 and 1953 in a classical style with a 65-metre bell tower topped by a bronze crown and cross. Inside, visitors can admire the elegant white marble interior, stained-glass windows depicting the history of the apparitions, and the tombs of the three visionaries: Saint Francisco Marto, Saint Jacinta Marto, and Sister Lúcia dos Santos. In front of the basilica lies the vast Prayer Area, leading to the Chapel of the Apparitions, the spiritual heart of the sanctuary and the exact location where the Virgin Mary is believed to have appeared to the children.
