Offered in: English

Shimbashi and Yurakucho offer a side of Tokyo that many visitors overlook, and they're two of my favorite areas for street photography. Rather than chasing the city's most photographed locations, we'll work among narrow alleyways, train tracks, small restaurants and the everyday rhythm of local life.

On weekday evenings after 17:00, the area transforms as office workers fill the streets, izakayas and alleyways — creating one of Tokyo's most distinctive environments for candid street photography. Along the way, I'll share context about Japanese work and social culture and how it shapes what we're photographing.

Most importantly, this is a hands-on workshop rather than simply a guided photo walk. I'll work with you individually on seeing scenes, composition, light, timing and developing your own approach to street photography.

And depending on the day and conditions, we may even discover a few less obvious viewpoints along the way.

What to expect

Join me for a hands-on street photography workshop through the streets of Shimbashi and Yurakucho — two of my favorite areas to photograph everyday life in Tokyo.

Over two hours, we'll explore narrow alleyways, busy streets, elevated train tracks and pockets of local nightlife while working on the skills that make strong street photographs: composition, light, timing, movement, layering and anticipating moments before they happen.

Rather than simply taking you to photogenic locations, I'll work with you throughout the session, offering practical guidance and individual feedback based on your experience level and photographic style.

I've photographed Tokyo's streets extensively for years and now work professionally as a photographer. I'll share how I approach a scene, find interesting light and compositions, and turn ordinary moments into photographs with atmosphere and story.

All skill levels are welcome. Whether you're relatively new to street photography or already experienced, the goal is to help you see Tokyo differently and leave with techniques you can continue using long after the workshop.
