Enjoy a relaxed 5-hour experience that shows you a more real, everyday side of Rhodes. Simple, scenic, and easygoing.
Start with a drive through Rhodes City, passing the Old Town walls and the modern streets where locals live and work. It’s not just sightseeing — it’s a glimpse into daily island life, with your driver sharing small stories along the way.
Then head up to Filerimos Hill, a quiet, green spot above the island. Walk under the trees, see the monastery area, and reach the big cross viewpoint with wide views over Rhodes. It’s the kind of place locals go when they want peace, wind, and a break from everything.
Continue to the Valley of the Butterflies, a cool shaded valley with little paths, wooden bridges, and streams. In summer, butterflies gather here in the thousands, resting quietly on the trees — a soft, almost calming experience rather than something rushed or crowded.
A short but meaningful trip that mixes city, views, and nature at an easy local pace.
Your driver will be waiting for you at the tourist port with a sign showing your name. Once we have received your booking, we will sent you more information with his contact details.
The excursion starts with a drive outside the walls of the Medieval Town where Byzantine, Ottoman and Italian architecture is witnessed. We continue to the entrance of the Old Harbor (Mandraki) where, according to the tradition, the Colossus of Rhodes (one of the seven ancient world wonders) once stood. Close to the entrance of the Old Port is the "Church of Annunciation of the Virgin Mary", where today is the town's cathedral church. Driving towards the northernmost tip of Rhodes, we will see the Aquarium of Rhodes, which is the ideal place for those wishing to see the spot where the Aegean and the Mediterranean Sea meet each other. As we drive up to the Acropolis of Rhodes City you will have a picturesque panoramic view from Monte Smith Hill. The familiarizations of the temple of Apollo, the Greek Stadium and the Greek Amphitheatre are then followed in order to become a knowledgeable resident.
An important archaeological site dedicated to the Virgin Mary, Filerimos is situated inland between Rhodes town and the airport on the west coast. The monastery has ancient icons and within the site are the remains of the Temple of Athena Polias. Arriving at the top of the hill, you will notice the ruins of ancient Ialyssos to the right side, and to the left a little kiosk with souvenirs and beverages. In the ’20s, during the reconstruction of the Monastery, a very important part was added to the Mt Filerimos – the Calvary route (via Crucis or the road to Golgotha). It sets off from the square that leads to the westernmost point of the hill. The 400 m stone-paved path is dotted with 14 Holy Shrines, presenting Jesus Christ’s Passions and his way to Calvary. At the end of the path is a small square with an imposing cross 17.8 m (58.4 ft) overlooking the Northeast part of the island.
To continue the day, head into one of Rhodes’ most peaceful spots — the Valley of the Butterflies. This is a quiet, green escape from the coast, where the air feels cooler and everything slows down. You’ll walk along shaded paths, small wooden bridges, and streams tucked between pine trees, with the scent of sweetgum trees all around you. In the summer months, thousands of butterflies gather here, resting on tree trunks and rocks. It’s not staged or artificial — just a natural phenomenon that happens every year, and it gives the valley a calm, almost dreamlike feel. It’s an easy, relaxed stop, perfect for families or anyone who just wants a break in nature before heading back. Along the way, your driver shares bits of local life and stories about Rhodes, so the experience feels more personal and grounded. By the time you leave, it’s less about ticking a place off a list and more about having spent a quiet, memorable moment in nature.
