This is Port of Spain’s only food tour. It’s a journey into the real heartbeat of the city.
We begin in the lively downtown area, strolling along the Brian Lara Promenade where everyday life unfolds around us. As you sample popular street foods made by local vendors, your guide shares stories of the city’s rich and diverse past, from African, Indian, Chinese, and European influences to Carnival traditions and independence.
Your 3.5-hour experience also takes you to uptown Port of Spain, where the iconic Magnificent Seven, a row of elaborate colonial-era mansions, show off the city’s architectural history and wealth from the late 1800s.
You’ll also pass major landmarks like the War Memorial, the peaceful Botanic Gardens, and historic places of worship that reflect the island’s deep religious and cultural diversity.
This tour connects you to the people, history, and food that define Port of Spain. Come hungry for flavour and insight, you’ll leave with both.
If you are staying in an Airbnb you can choose one of the listed hotels to be picked up. At the end of the tour, you will be returned to the same hotel.
You will be cruising through downtown Port of Spain, where the new mixes with the old (19th-century chic mixing with 21st-century functionality). Along the way, you will hear about some of the fascinating historical facts about this city, including where the Abolition of Slavery Act was read in 1834. You will also be guided on a 30-minute stroll through Port of Spain's historic bus terminus, where you will also be enjoying some local snacks, while hearing about Port of Spain's history.
You’ll be stopping at a roadside vendor to experience one of our most popular breakfast food items; spicy doubles! You’ll also be enjoying another local favourite, fried pastry! This is made on the spot and can be stuffed with fish, potato, or chickpeas.
Your next segment of this tour takes you to the uptown part of Port of Spain where you will be driven even deeper into our history via 19th Century buildings (known as the Magnificent 7), the Botanic Gardens and the Queen's Park Savannah; said to be one of the world's largest roundabouts.
Food Stop: Chocolates! You'll be visiting a cute and cosy little shop where chocolates are hand-made following organic and sustainable standards. A bar of dark chocolate of your choice is included while also having the option to purchase other cocoa-based items. A chocolate lover's heaven!
The oldest rum shop (bar) in Port of Spain, at 200+ years old! We conclude our morning at a traditional local bar. We will sit out the midday heat on classic wooden stools, washing everything down with an ice-cold local beer, hard cider, or a local non-alcoholic bottled beverage.
