2Oirase Gorge
Nestled within Aomori Prefecture’s Towada-Hachimantai National Park, Oirase Gorge is recognized as both a Special Place of Scenic Beauty and a Natural Monument in Japan. Spanning approximately 14 kilometers, the gorge is adorned with lush forests and over a dozen waterfalls. Paved roads and walking trails run alongside the clear stream, with leafy tree tunnels welcoming visitors in every season. In summer, Oirase offers a cool escape from the heat—ideal for a refreshing riverside walk amid vibrant greenery. Come autumn, the gorge transforms into a lesser-known spot for breathtaking foliage, as fiery reds, golden yellows, and deep greens blanket the trail in a spectacular display of color.
