    Kumano Nachi Taisha

    Kumano Nachi Taisha, one of the Kumano Sanzan grand shrines, sits halfway up Mount Nachi and originated from ancient nature worship dedicated to Nachi Falls. At the top of 467 stone steps stands a vibrant, vermilion-lacquered worship hall, behind which six sacred main hall buildings reside in a solemn atmosphere. Within the grounds stands a sacred 850-year-old giant camphor tree, where visitors can experience Tainai Kuguri (walking through the hollow trunk), a ritual symbolizing spiritual rebirth.
