What to expect

Step off the tourist trail and into the rhythms of everyday Moshi life with this intimate market-to-table culinary journey. Led by Consolata Mtalo — a lifelong Moshi resident and passionate home cook — this experience takes you into the heart of Tanzanian food culture, from the bustling stalls of the local market all the way to a shared meal at her family home.

Unlike restaurant tours or resort cooking demonstrations, this is an authentic window into how Tanzanians actually shop, cook, and eat. Walk the market with Consolata as a local — not a tourist — learning which vendors she trusts, why she chooses one variety of cassava over another, and the stories behind staple ingredients like plantain, pigeon peas, and aromatic herbs grown on the slopes of Kilimanjaro.

After your market adventure, hop aboard a local tuk-tuk for a scenic 30-minute ride to Consolata's home, where the real cooking begins. Roll up your sleeves and join in preparing dishes such as Ugali (the cornerstone of Tanzanian cuisine), Mtori (a rich banana and beef broth soup from the Chagga people), and seasonal vegetable sides — all from the ingredients you hand-picked together.

Finally, sit down to enjoy the meal.
