Fimmvörðuháls Hike: From Skógar to Þórsmörk
Experience one of Iceland’s most spectacular hiking trails — the legendary Fimmvörðuháls route.
We begin our adventure at the breathtaking Skógafoss waterfall, a 60-meter cascade that marks the start of this unforgettable 25-kilometer journey toward Þórsmörk. The trail follows the Skógá River, leading past dozens of waterfalls as we climb between two mighty glaciers — Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull.
High in the mountains, we’ll cross the dramatic lava fields created by the 2010 eruption and step onto the two volcanic craters, Móði and Magni, named after the sons of Thor. From there, we descend toward Þórsmörk, a lush valley surrounded by glaciers and rugged peaks.
If the weather is kind, we’ll be rewarded with sweeping views of volcanoes, glaciers, highlands, and glacier valleys — a true feast for the senses. The Fimmvörðuháls hike offers the best of Icelandic nature: dramatic landscapes, raw volcanic power, and unforgettable beauty.
