What to expect

During this hands-on experience, you’ll step inside Takahashi Kobo, a historic Edo woodblock printing studio with over 160 years of history. After a short introduction from a professional artisan, you’ll learn about the ukiyo-e printing process and the traditional tools and materials used.

Then, you’ll try it yourself — applying pigments and glue to the woodblock, pressing and burnishing them onto Japanese washi paper to create your own colorful design. Once your print is complete, the artisans will help you to transform your finished washi paper into a beautiful bamboo-handled fan, which you can take home the same day.
