    Baoding Mountain Carved Stone

The Dazu Rock Carvings, the essence of the site, were carved over 70 years under the supervision of the eminent Southern Song Dynasty monk Zhao Zhifeng. It is a large-scale Buddhist esoteric Buddhist site with nearly 10,000 statues. Key attractions include the Thousand-Hand Guanyin statue and the 31-meter-long reclining Buddha of Sakyamuni's Nirvana, considered a final monument in the history of world grotto art.

The Beishan Stone Carvings were first carved in the late Tang Dynasty (892 AD) and continued through the Five Dynasties and Song Dynasty. The approximately 500-meter-long cliff face of the Buddha Bay is densely packed with niches resembling a honeycomb. Renowned for its delicate, exquisite, and elegant carvings, it is hailed as a "museum of Tang and Song Dynasty stone carving art," and also known as the "Chinese Guanyin Statue Museum" due to its numerous Guanyin statues.

The central urban area of Dazu District, named after the phrase "abundant harvest and abundant resources," is an ancient city with a history of over 1200 years. The old city is located in a narrow strip of land between the North Mountain and the South Mountain. In recent years, it has undergone a transformation in its distinctive streetscape, preserving Tang Dynasty-style architecture and the charm of Bayu folk customs. Here, visitors can experience the local lifestyle and sample authentic local snacks.
