Lion's Head is Cape Town's favourite summit hike. From 669 metres you see Table Mountain, the City Bowl, Robben Island, the Twelve Apostles and the Atlantic coastline in one sweep.
The path spirals around the peak, so the view keeps changing: the city and harbour, then Camps Bay and Clifton, then the open ocean. Lower down you pass rare silver trees and seasonal fynbos.
Your guide is a nationally registered Cape Town tour guide and certified Wilderness First Responder, with stories of how the mountain was built and the people who have lived in its shadow.
Near the summit there's a short section of chains and ladders, with a bypass path if heights aren't for you.
Choose sunrise, sunset or daytime. Every hike is private, for your group only. On sunset hikes we're off the mountain before dark. Hikes take about 3 hours at sunset and 3.5 hours at sunrise or by day. Hotel pick-up and drop-off are included for up to 3 guests; additional guests meet us at the trailhead on Signal Hill Road.
Hotel pick-up and drop-off are included for up to 3 guests. Any additional guests, and larger groups, make their own way to the trailhead; the car park fills up, especially at sunset, so arrive 15 minutes early or come by rideshare. For sunrise and sunset hikes, Geoff will message you your exact pick-up time before the hike.
Meet at the Lion's Head information board at the trailhead.
Meet at the trailhead on Signal Hill Road (or come with your guide from your hotel). Climb through silver trees and fynbos on the lower slopes, then follow the spiral path around the peak with changing views of the city, Camps Bay, Clifton and the Atlantic. Near the top, tackle a short section of chains and ladders, or take the bypass path. Enjoy the 360-degree view from the 669 m summit before the descent.
