Meeting and pickup
Meet our team in Sirkeci, in front of "Merhaba Pastanesi." A team member holding an "Istanbul Workshops" sign will meet you and guide the group across to our Üsküdar studio via the Marmaray line (a single stop). Please arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled start time.
What to expect
Begin with an introduction to the history and significance of 'Hat' calligraphy in Ottoman and Turkish culture. Learn about the traditional tools and materials, focusing on how to apply ink or paint onto glass surfaces.
Under expert instruction, practice fundamental strokes and letter forms, adapting techniques for glass painting. Choose a word, a traditional motif, or your name in a stylized script to create.
Carefully transfer your chosen calligraphy design onto the glass panel using specialized inks/paints. Once complete, your artwork will be secured within a brass frame. While your piece sets, enjoy complimentary Turkish tea or coffee and traditional snacks, discussing art and Istanbul with your instructor and fellow participants.
Conclude your workshop by taking home your beautifully handcrafted 'Hat' calligraphy, elegantly presented in its brass frame a unique and personal souvenir of your artistic experience in Istanbul.
