We start the day with a guided trek up Ilamatepec (Santa Ana Volcano). The trail is about 2.5 kilometers up and 2.5 kilometers down. It’s a steady, moderate climb, but the scenery is incredible the entire way. You’ll walk through cool cloud forests before the landscape opens up into a rocky, volcanic environment with massive views of the valleys below. Once you reach the summit, you get the real payoff. You’ll be able to look straight down into the smoking, bright-turquoise crater lake. From the top, you also get a massive, panoramic view of Lake Coatepeque in the distance. We’ll take our time at the summit so you can catch your breath, take amazing photos, and just take in the altitude before we make our way back down the trail.
After burning all those calories, we drive straight down to the water. Lake Coatepeque is a massive volcanic crater lake and the absolute best place to cool off in El Salvador. Here, the vibe totally flips from active to relaxed. You will be able to sit down for a massive, well-earned included lunch right on the water. Once you've got your energy back, you can hop on a jet ski and ride around the lake. We keep this part of the day flexible—whether you want to speed across the water on a jet ski or just eat and recover with a view, you've earned it.
