What to expect

Two boat dives in the Bay of Islands, where a warm current brings subtropical fish south to mix with New Zealand's own residents. Look out for Lord Howe coralfish, Kermadec scalyfin, gold-ribbon grouper, several species of moray, northern scorpionfish and some of the world's largest stingrays.

We cruise out on our dive boat Sentinel through the islands, often spotting dolphins, penguins and seals on the way, to Deep Water Cove near Cape Brett. The volcanic reefs have walls, caves, arches and swim-throughs under a forest of kelp. Dives are generally 18m or shallower. Lunch and snorkelling stop between dives, and we're back at Paihia wharf around 3:30pm.

Open to any certified diver who has dived in the last 12 months (Advanced divers: 18 months). All scuba gear is included.
