No experience needed: this is the easiest way to try scuba diving in the Bay of Islands. You spend a full day on the water with a dive team that has been diving here since 1978, get free lifetime access to SSI's digital learning, and dive with an instructor beside you the whole time. All gear is included, and you can add a second intro dive by choosing the 2nd Intro Dive option when you book.

Meeting point

Meet at the Paihia Dive shop, 35 Williams Road, Paihia (blue shopfront) at 7:45 a.m. for gear fitting and paperwork. The boat leaves Paihia wharf at 8:30 a.m. Staying in Russell? We can pick you up from Russell wharf at 8:45 a.m. - just let us know when you book.

What to expect

Never dived before? This is your chance to breathe underwater in the Bay of Islands, with no experience or certification needed. Spend the day on our dive boat Sentinel. While the certified divers explore the wreck, your SSI instructor takes you through the digital training materials (free for life in the MySSI app) and briefs you on the dive.

Then it's your turn. At a shallow reef site you gear up, and your instructor guides you through some basic skills until you're comfortable breathing underwater. Then you descend to a maximum of 12 meters for a tour of the reef and its marine life, with your instructor alongside you the whole time.

Afterwards there's time for lunch and snorkeling, and if you'd like a second dive, choose the 2nd Intro Dive option when you book. We cruise back through the islands and are normally in Paihia by 4:00pm. All gear is included.
