Snorkel the Bay of Islands' marine-rich reefs from a real dive boat, travelling alongside divers to the same spots they explore. Paihia Dive has been running trips here since 1978. It's a full day out through the islands, with dolphins, penguins and seals often seen on the way, and all your snorkelling gear and wetsuit included. Kids from 6 are welcome at a reduced rate.

Meet at the Paihia Dive shop, 35 Williams Road, Paihia (blue shopfront) at 7:45 a.m. for wetsuit fitting and paperwork. The boat leaves Paihia wharf at 8:30 a.m. Staying in Russell? We can pick you up from Russell wharf at 8:45 a.m. - just let us know when you book.

What to expect

A full day on the water snorkelling some of the best reefs in New Zealand, with no diving experience needed. We cruise out on our dive boat Sentinel through the Bay of Islands, often spotting dolphins, penguins, seals and seabirds, to Deep Water Cove near Cape Brett.

While the divers are down, you get into your wetsuit and snorkel over the reef, where snapper, wrasse and other fish come close with very little effort. After lunch we move to a second reef site for more snorkelling, or you can relax on the boat and enjoy the scenery. We cruise back through the islands and arrive at Paihia wharf around 3:30pm.

Mask, snorkel, fins and wetsuit are all included. It's also a great way to join a partner or friend who is diving.
