It was 1927 when a Spanish adventurer named Victoriano López Robredo decided to open his first spice business. The following year he decided to move it to a larger and more distinguished premises which he called “EL GATO NEGRO”.

The place was declared a Site of Cultural Interest by the Legislature of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires and a Notable Bar by the Commission for the Protection and Protection of Notable Cafes, Bars and Confectioneries of the City.
