The non-participatory mokoro safari takes you to the Okavango Delta where you will witness a combination of aquatic wildlife, amazing bird species, breath taking landscapes, tranquil sunrise and sunsets, and amazing star gazing; all in all summed up in one word: unforgettable! We will visit the Eastern delta in a community controlled wilderness area. We work with some of the most experienced Polers who have mastered the channels as well as being astute in coexisting with aquatic and land wildlife. Did we mention the nature walks and how those make you just part of the ecosystem?
We also pick up from Bus Stations
Your safari begins with a 8:00 AM pick-up from your hotel, transferring directly to the mokoro station. Here, step into a traditional dugout canoe for a tranquil, leisurely journey through the lily-filled channels of the Okavango Delta, a world-renowned UNESCO World Heritage site. Arrive at a secluded island to set up camp, enjoy a fresh lunch, and unwind with a soothing riverside siesta in the heart of the wilderness. In the late afternoon, set off on a guided 2-hour nature walk to explore the surrounding island ecosystem up close and learn about the Delta's unique flora and fauna. Return to camp as the sun sets over the floodplains, where a hot bush shower awaits in the privacy of your tent. Gather around the crackling campfire for a delicious dinner and an intimate exchange of stories and local heritage, followed by stargazing through our camp telescope before retreating to your en-suite safari tent.
Awaken to a fresh morning with warm coffee, tea, and local rusks around the fire. Set off on a guided three-hour early morning nature walk across the island to track wildlife, discover local plants, and connect deeply with the peaceful environment. Return to camp around 10:00 AM for a hot, filling brunch, followed by a relaxing afternoon siesta surrounded by the quiet beauty of the Delta. Once well-rested, step back into your mokoro for a serene three-hour sunset cruise through the winding water channels, returning to camp just before dusk. Back at camp, enjoy a hot bush shower in the privacy of your en-suite tent before gathering around the campfire for dinner, sharing stories with your guide like old friends.
Awaken to your final morning in the Delta, taking in the quiet beauty of the bush over warm drinks and breakfast. Set out on one last guided nature walk for up to three hours, tailored to your pace and energy levels. Return to camp around 10:00 AM for a satisfying final brunch, followed by time to unwind. Safety permitting, you may even take a refreshing dip in the clear channels, connecting fully with the surrounding ecosystem. After a truly once-in-a-lifetime wilderness experience, glide back to the station aboard your mokoro while reflecting on your journey. There, an open game viewer, followed by a comfortable drop-off back at your hotel in Maun.
