During Colonial times, the Historic Centre of Lima, known as the “Ciudad de los Reyes” (City of Kings), was the political, administrative, religious and economic centre for the Spanish in Peru. Explore Lima’s Historic Center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site filled with remarkable colonial landmarks. Begin with a visit to Casa Aliaga, a colonial mansion with more than five centuries of history and considered the oldest house in the Americas. Continue to the Main Square, where you will admire Lima Cathedral, one of the city’s most important architectural treasures. Then, visit the Larco Museum, located in the traditional district of Pueblo Libre. The museum houses an outstanding collection of pre-Hispanic gold and silver artifacts, as well as a renowned exhibition of erotic art, offering a fascinating journey through more than 5,000 years of Peru’s ancient history. Start the day with breakfast at the hotel, then transfer from your hotel in Lima to the bus station to travel to the city of Ica. Upon arrival, you will visit the Plaza de Armas of the city and the main streets of Ica Antigua and Moderna. Then you will have a panoramic tour of the temple of the Lord of Luren. Visit an artisan winery where you will have a full explanation of the elaboration of wine and Pisco with its respective tasting. You will also visit the Regional Museum of Ica where you will appreciate the evolution of the five most representative cultures of the region such as Paracas, Nazca, Wari, Ica, Chincha and Inca. Finally, you will visit the Huacachina Lagoon also called “the Oasis of America” where you will appreciate the wonderful desert landscape surrounded by impressive dunes. After breakfast at the hotel, head to El Chaco Pier to embark on a boat excursion to the Ballestas Islands. Located off the coast of Paracas, these rocky islands are home to an extraordinary variety of wildlife, including guano birds, pelicans, boobies, sea lions, and Humboldt penguins. As you cruise around the islands, enjoy spectacular views of their dramatic rock formations and observe the abundant marine fauna in their natural habitat. After the excursion, return to Paracas and later transfer to the bus station for your journey back to Lima. Along the way, make a special stop at Hacienda San José in Chincha, where you will explore its historic underground tunnels, built in the 17th century and closely linked to the region’s colonial history. Start the day with breakfast at the hotel, then take a transfer to the airport to fly to Cusco. You will be met by one of our representatives in Cusco who will transfer you to your hotel. In the afternoon, enjoy a guided tour of the former capital of the Inca Empire. The tour begins at the Santo Domingo Convent, a building constructed on the site of Coricancha, one of the most important Incan complexes dedicated to sun worship. According to historic records, the original temple walls depicted scenes of nature and were covered in gold leaf. After Coricancha, visit the imposing cathedral in the Plaza de Armas, then head to the Cusco hills, where you’ll find the fortress of Sacsayhuamán and panoramic views of Cusco. Continue on to Qenqo, an archaeological site where it is believed the Incas carried out religious rituals to improve harvests. Your tour ends in Puka Pukara, meaning 'strong red' in Quechua. Puka Pukara is believed to be an ancient military site comprising numerous rooms, courtyards, baths, aqueducts and towers. At the end of the tour, you will be transferred back to your hotel. After breakfast at the hotel, a shared transfer will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco and take you to Ollantaytambo Train Station. Board the Voyager train to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo). Upon arrival, assistance will be provided before continuing to Machu Picchu by bus. Located high in the Andes, Machu Picchu is considered one of the greatest achievements of Inca engineering and architecture. Believed to have served as a sanctuary and retreat for the Inca Pachacutec, this UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Wonders of the Modern World captivates visitors with its historical significance and breathtaking scenery. After your guided visit, return by bus to Aguas Calientes and enjoy lunch at Café Inkaterra, overlooking the Vilcanota River. Later, board the 360° train back to Ollantaytambo. Upon arrival, a shared transfer will take you to your selected hotel in Cusco. Overnight in Cusco.
