15:00▼ Kokura Castle (Approx. 50 min, free time) Kokura Castle is known for its distinctive Tang-style architectural design, with a simple yet impressive appearance. The castle was originally built by Hosokawa Tadaoki, who began ruling the Buzen and Bungo regions in 1600 with an income of 400,000 koku.(Adult: JPY 500) In 1632, Ogasawara Tadazane became the lord of Kokura Castle. From that time until the Meiji period, the castle remained the residence of the Ogasawara family for approximately 230 years and across 10 generations. In 1866, Kokura Castle was destroyed by fire during the Keio War, bringing an end to its former prosperity. The present-day Kokura Castle was reconstructed in 1959.

Its spectacular night view is recognized as one of the “New Three Major Night Views of Japan.” Visitors can take the cable car and inclined railway to the summit and enjoy the illuminated cityscape and harbor views.
