Deep dive into the Korean War & DMZ.

The Korean War is key to understanding modern two Koreas. The tour begins with the birth of South & North Korea after liberation from Japan, and then looks closely at the origins & backgrounds of the War, 4 stages of the war situation and the armistice. In Cheorwon, a two-hour drive from Seoul, explore the REAL DMZ, unlike the commercialized tourist DMZ sites found elsewhere. Check the deployment of military bases including General Outposts, Guard Posts and iron fences from both sides.

After the DMZ tour inside the Civilian Control Zone, visit the memorial site of the Battle of the White Horse Hill, one of the fiercest battles during the War, and the Korean Workers Party Headquarters built by North Korea before the War.

The professional guides who are experts in Korean history, politics and military doing their PhD give you guided tours with complementary materials - pictures and copies of documents.

We walk through the 2nd Infiltration Tunnel, covering a distance of about 500 meters underground in the DMZ, up to a point 300 meters from the Military Demarcation Line. Inside the tunnel, you can see white circles marking the holes where North Korea placed dynamite to excavate the tunnel.

    Cheorwon Peace Observatory

From the Cheorwon Peace Observatory, you can see the DMZ and North Korean territory. Unlike other observatories, here you can also see the actual deployment of military bases, including general outposts, guard posts and iron fences on both sides. Unlike commercialised, tourist-oriented DMZ sites, Cheorwon offers a realistic view of the DMZ.

From 15 August 1945, when Korea was liberated from Japan, until 25 June 1950, when the Korean War broke out, Cheorwon was under North Korean control. The headquarters served as the central office of the Gangwon Provincial Party, which ruled the area at the time. It was also the political, social and cultural heart of the region. Furthermore, the basement of this building was used to carry out investigations and torture of liberals and capitalists.
