2. The Landscape: Between Salt and the City The most impressive thing about this route is the visual contrast it offers: The Pink Lagoon : Much of the road runs parallel to the shore of the lagoon. Depending on the light and the time of year, you will walk by deep pink waters, separated from the path by grasslands and halophilic vegetation. The Salt Mountains : From the road you have a privileged perspective of the garberas (the huge white mountains of salt) and the machinery that works in the extraction. Urban and Agricultural Environment : In its first section it crosses residential areas, but quickly enters a clearer environment where Mediterranean scrublands predominate and views of nearby farm fields.

The Lagoons de La Mata and Torrevieja Natural Park is one of the most important ecological gems of the Valencian Community. This internationally important wetland (included in the RAMSAR agreement) occupies about 3,700 hectares and offers a landscape of unique contrasts between green and pink. Torre del Moro is one of the oldest and most significant monuments in Torrevieja. Strategically located over Cape Cervera, at one of the highest points on the coast, it offers one of the most impressive panoramas of the entire Alicante coastline. Here are the fundamental details that define it: Origin and Historical Function Coast Guard : It is part of the network of watchtowers that ran along the Spanish Mediterranean coast since the 14th century. Its main function was to alert the population and neighbouring towns to incursions by Barbary pirates. Warning System: When a threat was seen from the horizon, bonfires were lit at the top of the tower to quickly warn along the coast. Architecture and Restoration Structure: It is a circular tower built with masonry. Although the original structure has suffered the passage of time and historical attacks, it was rebuilt while maintaining its defensive style.

The Paseo Juan Aparicio is possibly the place with the most personality of Torrevieja.
