1. More Than Just Deer & the Big Buddha

I’ll absolutely show you Nara’s famous sights—but I’ll also help you understand the stories, beliefs and people behind them. My goal is to make ancient Japanese history feel interesting, relatable and surprisingly fun.

2. Explore With a Local, Not Just Follow a Guide

I want the experience to feel more like exploring Nara with a knowledgeable local friend. Ask questions, have conversations, stop somewhere interesting and enjoy the city without feeling rushed from one attraction to another.

3. Your Tour, Your Pace

Some guests love history. Some want beautiful photos. Others could happily spend half the tour feeding deer. I get it! The route and pace can be adjusted depending on your interests and tour length.

4. Great Memories—and Great Photos

I am also photographers, so I’ll naturally capture photos of you throughout the experience. Enjoy Nara without constantly worrying about getting the perfect shot-I’ll help with that too.

What to expect

Hi! I’m Yu Noda, a tour guide and photographer!

When most people think of Nara, they think of two things:
Deer and the Big Buddha.

And yes—we’re definitely going to see both!
But Nara is so much more than that.

I want to help you see Nara not just as a collection of temples and shrines, but as a place full of stories.
We’ll walk through Nara Park among hundreds of free-roaming deer, pass through the enormous Nandaimon Gate and stand face-to-face with the Great Buddha inside Todaiji.

Why did Japan build such an enormous Buddha in the first place? Why are deer considered sacred here? What’s the difference between a Buddhist temple and a Shinto shrine?

And please—ask me anything!

History, Buddhism, Shinto, food, Japanese culture, daily life, where to eat after the tour, or something completely random you’ve been wondering about since arriving in Japan.

I am also photographers, so we’ll naturally take photos of you throughout the experience—whether that’s in front of Todaiji, walking through the park or negotiating with a particularly ambitious deer.

Hope to see you in Nara!
