La Paz Bay is one of the only places on earth where you can reliably swim with whale sharks in the wild — and The Hook runs the smallest groups of any permitted operator. Maximum 10 guests. Guests rotate into the water in sets of 3–4, going multiple times with unhurried encounters — no waiting on a crowded deck. Certified marine biologist guides position you for the best possible encounter every time while respecting the animals completely. CONANP regulations protect the whale sharks. Our small group size protects your experience. This is what swimming with whale sharks is supposed to feel like.
Children 5+ welcome. No prior snorkeling experience needed — just a confident swimmer.
Final departure time confirmed the evening before by local authorities. The Hook manages all permitting on your behalf.
Other boats carry 20+ passengers. We carry 10. That difference means you spend double the time in the water.

La Paz has become in the last 15 years a premiere destination for naturalists, biologists and ocean lovers that want a truly close encounter with the gentle giant of the seas. The nutrient rich waters of La Paz secure a high density of food, allowing the whale shark to eat plankton and other tiny lifeforms in huge quantities which explains its behavior, It swims in circles at slow speed and maintaining a vertical static position at times, while filtering the waters, this behavior is perfect for observation. Swim with the largest fish in the sea as they feed on plankton in the safety of The Bay of La Paz. Spending time with these gentle giants is truly a life time experience.
