Argos is the oldest continuously inhabited city in Europe and the most interesting sightseeing of the city is the castle which displays layers of multiple cultures built over time. Here Ancient and Mycenean cyclopean masonry serve as the bedrock for the Byzantine fortifications. Some more fascinating ruins is the reconstructed mycenaean gate, the cisterns, a chapel of the 12th century and an inscription written in the boustrophedon system.

At the shores of the Argolic gulf is located mythical Lerna, the place where Hercules killed the mythical beast Lernean Hydra in the marsh, together with his nephew Iolaus, and completed the second labor. It features the water source and the mythical Alkyonia Lake. Unexpectedly at the river mouth is located a Second World War military facility.

In ancient Tiryns, in an orange grove, is standing remarkably intact for 3.200 years a royal tomb which one of the few of its kind in Greece. It is believed it belonged to the mythical king of Tiryns Proitos who is immortalized in Homer's Iliad. Noone knows for sure who was buried there because it has been looted since the antiquity.
