What's Included
Meeting and pickup
We will meet at Mazda Brand Space Osaka, 1st Floor of Umeda Sky Building, facing Osaka Station. It’s directly in front of the main entrance and very easy to spot. I’ll be waiting just outside. From there, it’s a 5-minute walk to our home for the calligraphy experience.
What to expect
Your experience begins at Umeda Sky Building, just a 5-minute walk from the host’s bright, sun-filled home studio. Here, you’ll learn the fundamentals of Japanese calligraphy (shodo) from an instructor with 10+ years of experience and award-winning calligraphy.
Choose your own word — your name in kanji, or a meaningful word like “peace,” “love,” or “dream” — and learn proper brush techniques using traditional tools: brush, ink, and washi paper. Your instructor guides you through stroke order and brush control at your own pace. It’s meditative, creative, and surprisingly relaxing.
Once your artwork is complete, it’s mounted in a beautiful frame, ready to take home as a meaningful souvenir of your time in Osaka.
After creating, you’ll whisk your own matcha latte using traditional tea tools, then settle in with a Japanese sweet. This quiet moment lets you reflect on your creation while enjoying authentic Japanese hospitality.
