Pick-up from hotels located in downtown Arequipa. We begin your tour towards the Sillar Route, a tourist route steeped in history and vibrant culture, where we visit quarries and areas where sillar stone originated. Your first stop will be the Añashuayco Quarry, which we will reach in approximately 45 minutes. It is currently in operation, with the quarrymen working from early morning. There, we will observe an immense canyon with towering cliffs (ignimbrite walls) several meters high, formed by the extraction process used to create the sillar stone. At this location, we will share the history of sillar, its production, and its traditional uses. At this quarry, you can also see a large-scale carving of the Church of the Society of Jesus, created by the quarrymen themselves.
Next, we'll travel to the Culebrillas Ravine, located 30 minutes from Añashuayco. Upon arrival, we'll take an approximately 20-minute hike through the small canyon carved by the water. The canyon walls are 15 to 20 meters high, and they increase in height as we enter. At the end of the hike, we'll see petroglyphs created by the Wari culture over a thousand years ago. Before returning to the city, we'll observe the Apachetas, stone formations stacked one on top of the other, a symbol of gratitude to nature. We'll then begin our return trip to the city of Arequipa. We'll arrive in downtown Arequipa and drop you off near the Plaza de Armas.
