This "kintsugi" experience isn't about intentionally breaking a plate; instead, you will piece together fragments of authentic traditional pottery—sourced from kilns across Japan—to create a one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry. Most participants are trying their hand at jewelry making for the very first time, so beginners are warmly welcome.

What's Included

Apron and protective gear rental
Use of all necessary tools Brushes, spatulas, sandpaper, tweezers, work mats, protective gloves.
All basic kintsugi materials(Urushi lacquer, gold powder (or brass powder), adhesives
Guests may take photos; instructor assistance available upon request.
Introduction to the history of kintsugi, technique demonstration, and hands-on support.
English-speaking instructor
Base dish or jewelry parts(mini dish, or accessory components such as pendant or earring bases)

It is an old brick building. The shop is located on the third floor. There is an izakaya called "FUUTEN" on the first floor. You will find a staircase on the right side of the building; please go up to the third floor.

What to expect

In Japan, there are many workshops that involve the unwilling process of breaking plates and then mending them, but we do not engage in that unwilling action.

Originally, Kintsugi was a restoration technique born from the Japanese spirit of cherishing possessions, used for plates that were "gifts from important people," "very precious," or "very expensive."

Kintsugi means "golden woodworking," and it is a traditional Japanese art form in which pottery that has been broken unintentionally is repaired with golden lacquer, transforming cracks and imperfections from flaws into beautiful features.

Kintsugi teaches us to accept imperfection and find beauty in life's experiences.

The Kintsugi jewelry making process will proceed as follows:

You will learn about Kintsugi and the history of Japanese culture.
You will have the opportunity to touch and experience real lacquer.
You will receive an explanation of the Kintsugi method (a sheet will be provided).
You will select parts from fragments of high-quality Japanese ceramics, natural stones, and gemstones.
You will experience Kintsugi while referring to the instruction sheet.
