See Tanzania's two most famous wildlife areas, the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater, in just 3 days at a budget price. Join a friendly small group in a pop-up roof 4x4, sleep in tents at public campsites inside the parks and fall asleep to the calls of lions and hyenas. Track lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants and huge herds of wildebeest and zebra across the Serengeti plains, then descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, one of the best places in Africa to spot the endangered black rhino. Park fees, camping gear, a camp cook and all meals on safari are included, so there are no hidden costs. Ideal for solo travelers, backpackers and anyone who wants an authentic, adventurous safari.
We pick up from hotels in Arusha town and from Kilimanjaro (JRO) or Arusha airports. Please be ready in your hotel lobby 15 minutes before pickup time. Share your hotel name and WhatsApp number when booking, and your guide will confirm the exact pickup time the evening before the safari.
After an early pickup in Arusha, drive west past Mto wa Mbu and up into the green Ngorongoro highlands, stopping at the crater rim viewpoint for photos. Continue through Maasai grazing lands into the endless plains of the Serengeti. Your afternoon game drive begins as soon as you enter the park, searching for lions, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes and the great herds of wildebeest and zebra on the way to your campsite in central Serengeti (Seronera).
Wake early for a sunrise game drive, the best time to see lions, leopards and cheetahs on the hunt along the Seronera River valley and its kopjes (rock outcrops). Return to camp for a hot breakfast, then continue game viewing across the Serengeti plains, home to huge herds of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle, plus elephants, giraffes and hippos.
In the afternoon, leave the Serengeti through Naabi Hill Gate and cross the short-grass plains of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where Maasai herders graze their cattle alongside wildlife. Climb to the forested rim of the Ngorongoro Crater and set up camp at Simba Campsite, with views over the crater. Bring warm clothes: nights on the rim are cool.
After an early breakfast, descend 600 m into the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the world's largest intact volcanic caldera. The crater floor is home to around 25,000 animals and is one of the best places in Africa to see the endangered black rhino. Look for lions, elephants, buffalo, hippos, hyenas, flamingos and huge herds of zebra and wildebeest. Enjoy a picnic lunch by the hippo pool, then climb out of the crater and drive back to Arusha, arriving in the late afternoon.
