This hands-on session begins with an introduction to calligraphic techniques and philosophy, followed by a calming ritual of ink preparation. As you practice brush strokes and write your chosen kanji, discover the meditative nature of this ancient art form. What to expect

Guests begin with an introduction to the history and meditative spirit of Japanese calligraphy. They then learn how to hold a traditional brush and prepare sumi ink with an inkstone. After practicing basic lines and brushstrokes, they choose a meaningful kanji character and receive step-by-step guidance in writing it. Finally, they create a finished calligraphy piece on Sekishu washi paper to take home, followed by a short review and photo time with their artwork.
